Idli, with a twist!

Ingredients:
Idli batter
Mustard seeds - a little
Urad dal - a little
Green Chillies - 1/2, finely chopped
Ginger - half inch piece, finely chopped
Cashew nuts - finely chopped
Curry leaves
Oil

Method:
Heat a frying pan with oil in it. Add the mustard seeds. When they crackle, add the urad dal, followed by the green chillies and ginger. Add the cashew nuts and curry leaves.
Take off the stove and pour into the batter. Stir well.
Pour this mixture into a greased bowl and steam it.
When the idli is ready and has cooled sufficiently, take it out by turning the bowl upside down.
Cut into slices.

Serve with podi or sambhar!
Postscript: You can also just steam the idli batter in a bowl, without adding the fried ingredients, to save time in pouring it into individual idli moulds and then having to clean them up!

  2. Yes! It also works well when the idli batter goes sour after a day or two. This makes idlis made out of it taste delicious.
